Did you know that in the United States there are more than two and a half million break ins every year: meaning one occurs approximately every 26 seconds. These break-ins occur in both residential and commercial settings, so for home and business-owners alike, security should always be top of mind. Especially when we consider how a high-quality security system can help manage—if not outright prevent—incidents. With that in mind, there are many types of security systems that you should be aware of. Here are four of them:

1. Electronic Access Control

Controlling and monitoring who has access to your business can help reduce theft and keep customers from accessing your employee-only zones. A physical key can be duplicated, which, in time, will require changing locks on a regular basis to maintain the needed level of security. An access control system using key fobs, proximity cards, or biometric technology such as SentryCard cannot be duplicated and can bring an extra layer of security to your business.

2. Intrusion Detection

Whether you own a home or business, an intrusion detection system will sound an alarm and alert authorities in the event an incident occurs. There are a number of events an intrusion alarm is monitoring for. Intrusion detection alarms look out for carbon monoxide alarms, smoke and fire alarms, and, of course, broken glass and a forced entry. So, if someone manages to circumvent your access control system, an intrusion detection alarm will still alert authorities to the incident.

In a 2013 study on burglars and their habits, 60% of burglars self-reported that they would seek out another target if their notice their initial target was equipped with an intrusion detection alarm and over half said they would abort the burglary attempt if an alarm sounded during the theft.

3. System Monitoring

System monitoring makes sure that alarms reach the necessary person at any time. With an appropriate systems monitor, an alarm system can be connected through phone lines, the internet, or a cell network to a central monitoring station. This ensures that local authorities and emergency response services are alerted in the event of an emergency. This is especially beneficial for rural businesses so they can know that their security needs are met as quickly as possible.

Types of Security Video Surveillance

Video surveillance solutions allow you to monitor your system anytime, anywhere from your laptop or phone.

4. Video Surveillance

We’re all familiar with video surveillance systems and how they work, but you may not know that they serve multiple purposes within a business’ broader security system. A video surveillance system can act as a theft prevention measure, but in the event an incident occurs, a video surveillance system helps investigators identify suspects and provide proof when filing an insurance claim.

Our installed video surveillance systems are equipped with specialized technology which allows users to specifically monitor suspicious actors. For example, if you notice someone loitering around your place of business while wearing a blue shirt, our systems allow you to pinpoint and isolate people wearing blue shirts and track their movements.

Vermillion Systems works with building owners, property managers, and corporations to design and deploy custom security systems. Our services include HD video surveillance with cloud access, burglar and fire alarms, access control, emergency call stations, intercoms, and AV systems. If your organization would benefit from a security systems upgrade, let’s talk.
