Ava’s specialized security offerings feature dome-shaped cameras with on-board hard drives; this means that even in areas of low bandwidth or latency with internet connection, the camera will continue to record and store information without the need for software updates, servers, nor server updates.
Ava also provides applications and internet browser connectivity, both of which allow customers to view both the camera’s live feed and any incidents the camera records. Further, the user can access Ava’s intuitive user interface to set parameters—telling the camera to pay particular attention to many occurrences, including, but not limited to:
- If a person enters an area
- If a person wearing a defined shirt or pants color enters frame
- If a car enters the area (and if the car is going too fast)
- The number of people in a given area
- A loud noise in the vicinity
Ava’s system will then send an email or a push notification if the user has the Ava app on his/her phone/tablet alerting them of the given incident and a clip of it. Based on the parameters the user sets, the system will essentially know what it’s looking for, where it’s looking for it—based on which camera is recording the incident—and what to do next—again, outlined by user, whether this means just sending a simple push notification or contacting law enforcement.
Outside of the alerts the system sends, the user can also access the camera’s internal storage at any time, scrub through the camera’s recording, and look for color-coded “spikes” along the timeline: the size and color of which are coordinated with the activity and the subject in question (red representing a car, or blue for a person, for example).
One of the key features of smart video surveillance systems is the ability to learn and ignore what is considered “normal.” As providers of such systems, Ava can be told to spend two weeks analyzing the area with painstaking attention to detail to learn what’s normal: after this two-week course on learning the area, the camera is now equipped to send notifications of “anomalies” to the user.
Ava’s highly intuitive, user-friendly, and cloud-based philosophy to video surveillance, as well as the eliminated need for software and server maintenance makes for quick and easy deployment. This is why the team at Vermillion Systems is very excited to partner with Ava and get to work deploying their cameras to customers.
