As of March 2020, FTCSC educates over 10,000 students and has more than 1,300 people on their payroll. Obviously, for the corporation, maintaining a safe learning environment was and continues to be top priority. Recognizing their security camera system was outdated, the school district turned to Vermillion Systems to provide a system which offered the capability they needed to help keep students, faculty, and staff as safe as possible. When upgrading their solutions, FTCSC needed exceptional image quality, powerful zoom control, and longer video retention times to help strengthen security while avoiding the various costs associated with many types of security systems.
Security cameras provide the sense of safety and security that are essential to a healthy learning environment.
Vermillion Systems prompted FTCSC to take a closer look at how their access control system had been deployed and used. By having a properly installed access control system, they could more easily see the state of all doors throughout the district, as well as lock and unlock doors with a push of a button. While the feature is not frequently used, administrators note that it gives them peace of mind to know that they have that level of control should they need to place a school in lockdown.
To bring their security systems up-to-date, FTCSC deployed various Avigilon and Motorola solutions as well as more than 400 video security cameras including some embedded with self-learning video analytics. FTCSC also uses MOTOTRBO two-way radios to keep administrators and police departments in contact with each other, allowing for easier communication between the two.
“Our Avigilon and Motorola Solutions system provides advanced security technologies that help enhance the safety of our school district, yet it’s easy enough for our staff and administrators to use. Vermillion Systems provided an exceptional experience as we upgraded to a comprehensive system, which has allowed us to increase operational efficiencies and avoid the associated risks and costs of an ineffective system.”

But did the solution work? Well, only minutes after FTCSC’s Avigilon video security camera system was installed, a suspicious person was spotted in a part of campus they weren’t supposed to be in. Administrators contacted law enforcement so they could intercept the individual and remove them from campus. Later, a truck drove onto one of the school’s athletic fields: the new system recorded the incident, which helped police track the vehicle’s route across campus, leading to FTCSC getting the restitution needed to repair the field.
Safety and security are essential to a healthy learning environment. FTCSC found that its Avigilon system helped alleviate the concern of recurring costs since the software does not have annual licensing fees, making it budget-friendly for years to come.
From better behavior to fewer budgetary considerations, FTCSC has gained significant benefits from its Avigilon and Motorola Solutions system as installed by Vermillion Systems. By deploying security solutions that meet its schools today and are designed to grow with the needs of tomorrow, the district is confident in its ability to keep its students, staff and faculty safe both now and in the future.
